If you are new to a position using the GMS software or have been doing a job for a while but feel you may need a refresher on procedures and controls there are sections in the help manual to assist you with this. In the Accounts Payable, Payroll and General Ledger books of the help manual you will find a chapter called Procedures at a Glance. (In General Ledger, the Procedures at a Glance is actually a page within the Monthly Processing chapter.)
These areas each contain an introductory or Things You Should Know section followed by a step by step guide through the process. It includes a brief description of each step with instructions on any required data entry in these areas. It will also provide you with information on what to expect on the reports and in some cases how to interpret them and how they can assist you with certain duties.
Procedures at a Glance in General Ledger\Monthly processing takes it one step further. For almost all items you will see a sentence or 2 with an arrow at the beginning. These arrows are indicating a specific item(s) that GMS feels you need to check at that moment. Taking the time to pause and do these checks will help assure the integrity of the financial reports.
