Special Intensive Training Seminars
Maximize your conference attendance by registering for a post conference intensive. These 1 ½ day sessions begin Thursday morning, April 23, concluding at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 24. Intensive #1 - Training on the Accounting Software This intensive will give you a complete overview of the accounting system. You will see all aspects of the accounting system from setup files to processing steps and reporting options. All of the books of entry, accounts payable processing, payroll processing, general ledger activities, cost allocation and report generation will be shown. Even though concurrent sessions on certain areas of the Accounting Software will take place during the regular annual conference, this 1 ½ day intensive allows more time to spend on the entire system. Intensive #2 - Year End Procedures/Preparing for Audit This intensive is a step-by-step review of what you need to do at year-end to close your books and to get ready for your audit. Learn about the latest GMS procedures. Understand schedules you will want to prepare for your auditor. Gain a full understanding about how revenue recognitions are determined based on the type of grant or contract. You will receive complete training on all aspects of year-end activity by experienced GMS personnel and an auditor. You will get an auditor’s perspective on what you should have ready for the audit and be able to get answers from an auditor with extensive experience in non-profit and GMS accounting. You will be shown what closing entries are used in the accounting system. This session is designed to help you keep audit costs under control. Intensive #3 - Laptop Hands-On with Report Writer Bring your laptop computer to this session and learn the step-by-step functions to develop reports using the GMS Report Writer. Each laptop must have the GMS Report Writer, Microsoft Access 2000 or higher, Microsoft Excel and all Microsoft updates installed prior to the intensive. GMS Staff will give instructions on how certain reports are developed. Then, as time permits, each person in the intensive can request instructions on how to develop a report that they want for their particular agency. All participants will then learn step-by-step how to develop and save those requested reports. When you get back to your office, you can then copy the ones you want for your agency from your laptop to your pc. This intensive will help broaden your use of the Report Writer, or for those new to using it, will provide the training necessary to produce reports needed at your agency. Registrations for this intensive will only be accepted from clients who presently have Supplement #406 Report Writer. |
Intensive #4 -Training on RLSS This training, utilizing our new vb.net version, will benefit anyone who is a seasoned user or new to GMS-RLSS. This session will cover every aspect of using GMS-RLSS so you can take advantage of all of its features. Among the topics will be setting up new loans, processing loan activity, using Master File Query, loan reporting, and utilizing the features included in the basic program. This is a great way to make sure that your loan policies and procedures are integrated with your RLSS software. This intensive features some hands-on training! Intensive #5 -A Human Resource Leadership Update for Financial Managers Ever wonder why you are sometimes the last person to know about key changes – staff terminations, grant/contract/program changes, or what the funding source said? Is the finance department blamed when agency staff do not get their requests approved? Does the board still not understand the monthly finance reports? Are you still chasing down board members for check signatures? Still cannot explain why staff mileage reports differ to and from the same locations? Is sick leave costing the agency an arm and a leg? Successful financial management means being inside ‘the loop’ and fiscal managers must be prepared to re-do the budget, cut the check now or get the report done today because everyone else was late turning in their information! This workshop is the one you have been looking for!
After an eight-year hiatus, GMS is pleased to welcome Pam Pullman back for this 1 ½ day intensive workshop. Pam is a former nonprofit Executive Director with 20 years experience in workshop facilitation. She will share best practices, real life sketches and a no-nonsense human resources management approach sprinkled with humor guaranteed to make you glad you came. This is the one NOT to miss! |
