It was Great Seeing Everyone!
GMS would like to thank everyone who attended the GMS Summit 2017 in San Diego, CA. For most of the year, GMS staff’s relationships with our clients consists of phone calls and emails. It is always such a pleasure to be able to see clients in person that are able to attend our Summits!
The interaction this year was tremendous and we thank the attendees for the great comments and suggestions that have been contributed. (Please see the article below about the summit evaluations.) Our new updated software that was used in all accounting sessions was well received. We hope those who attended found the sessions and interaction with other agencies helpful and educational. As is always the case, the GMS staff continues to be educated as well during the Summits. This is a result of conversations we have with clients and hearing your thoughts and comments. We truly value your feedback!
We also hope you had some time to experience the beach and boardwalk at Mission Bay, San Diego Zoo, USS Midway and Old Town San Diego. We look forward to seeing even more clients next year at the GMS Summit 2018 from May 20th through May 23rd at the Intercontinental Kansas City at the Plaza in Kansas City, MO!

We Need Your Summit Evaluations Please!
Your opinions are valued We rely on the evaluations submitted by attendees of the GMS Summits in a big way! Suggestions for new sessions are discussed every year by the GMS staff and comments about sessions are reviewed and discussed in an attempt to improve sessions in the following years. Ideas and suggestions about general topics also assist us when we are looking for outside guest speakers or with creating new sessions. If we only receive evaluations from 10% of the attendees and one or two of the 10% didn’t like a session or would like to add a new one, we don’t really have a good representation of opinions upon which to base our decisions. This is also true when rating sessions. GMS staff review all of the comments and ratings to determine what the attendees liked and didn’t like and what new ideas have been suggested for future training sessions. If you attended the GMS Summit 2017 in San Diego, CA and haven’t had a chance to return your evaluation, please mail or fax a copy to the Maryland office, or email a scanned copy to robin@gmsactg.com. An evaluation form can be found HERE for your convenience.

Attaching Documents in RLSS

Is one of your office’s goals to become a more “paperless” environment? To help you attain this goal, the RLSS software will allow you to attach documents to your loan files after you have scanned and stored them on your file server. This will save you many trips to the file cabinet to review your paper copies.
Within Loan Master files and Loan Activity, you will find an icon labeled “Attach/Retrieve Files”. Using this icon, you can attach documents relating to your loan that have been created or saved in formats such as Excel, Word, pdf, etc. You may then retrieve and view them at any time. Items you may wish to attach are the loan contract, proof of insurance, financial documents and copies of the checks received from your clients.
To attach a document, select the appropriate loan and click on the Attach/Retrieve Files icon. Browse to the location to which your document was saved on your network server or on your local C drive. Once the location and document appear in the File Location box, click on the Save icon. The location of your document should now be visible in the grid.
When a loan has any document attached, the magnifying glass/file folder icon will appear in the lower right corner of your Loan Activity or Loan Master screen. You may click on either this icon or the icon at the top of the screen to view a listing of your attached documents. To retrieve a specific document, simply click on it in the grid. Should you wish to delete the document from the grid, click on it once to highlight it and tap the delete key on your key board.

Monthly Processing Checks & Balances
Each month as you prepare and print your monthly reports you should be verifying the accuracy of each report. To assist you in determining this accuracy, we have a handy tool in the GMS Help Manual. This is located under Help, Help, General Ledger, Monthly Processing where you will see Monthly Processing Procedures at a Glance.
Throughout Monthly Processing Procedures at a Glance you will see bullet points like this: These empty circle bullet points indicate items within a report that should be checked for accuracy or when totals from one report should match totals from another report.
Take the time each month to confirm the items listed with each of these bullet points and audit time will not be nearly as intimidating because you’ll know your reports are accurate and reconciliations have been completed. |
